This course is aimed at all those just starting out with Firebird administration, or those currently considering the use of Firebird in a future project and would first like to get to know the database in more detail.

Learn the basic administrative tasks that are necessary for the successful administration of your Firebird server. You will learn how to install the Firebird server and get to know the various server versions and their differences: files and paths and firebird.conf parameters. You will gain background knowledge to comprehend Firebird's multi-generational architecture and go on to analyze database statistics. Using monitor tables and the Trace API you will discover what the database server is currently doing. We also take a look at automating the backup and restore, as well as the various data import and export methods to transfer data. We will show you the most important command-line tools which are required for maintenance operations and how to perform a database repair.

We then take a look at the optimal hard drive configuration, including hardware and operating system options. The comparison of hardware performance is demonstrated using Firebird benchmark tests. Furthermore we also take a look at the database parameters influencing performance and learn to understand and analyze the index statistics.

Finally, we we take a look at new features and major changes for database administrators in Firebird 3.0.

At the end of the day there is ample time to answer any questions.

Terms and conditions

The workshop is subject to the VAT/sales tax applicable in the country where it is taking place. The participation fee is payable immediately upon receipt of invoice. Participation is possible only if payment has been received in full before the workshop begins. Workshop participation can be canceled up until 03.01.2014.

In case of cancellation, the organiser will levy a cancellation fee of EUR 50 per person per day excluding VAT. After this date, it is no longer possible to cancel and the workshop fee must be paid in full.

The organizer reserves the right to make changes to the training program for organisational or other reasons. Payments will be refunded if the workshop has to be canceled by the organizer. Further legal claims against the organizers are explicitly excluded.
